poem ~ the story

You have a story in your mind 
about what you should and shouldn't do,
And how if you live it right 
you'll have the life that's meant for you. 

You have a story in your mind 
making everything right and wrong,
And in this constant evaluation 
you are kept ever so strong.

You have a story in your mind 
that in order to arrive,
You've got to do everything just right 
or God will deny you access to live a "blessed" life.

You have a story in your mind 
that says in order to be free,
You have to have everything that's missing
or happy you'll never be.

You have a story in your mind
from the experiences you've been through,
Yet if you would open up your eyes
you'd see another perspective that's even more true.

poem ~ my heart says

My heart says I love you
and I know it to be true,
For I've connected to you in a way
like nobody else has been able to do.

My heart says I love you
for you hear me through and through, 
It's part of the reason
that I want to know more about you.

My heart says I love you
for the way you just get me,
Even when I don't express myself
in a way I want to be free.

My heart says I love you 
for the words you say to me,
Because one of my love languages 
is affirmations in thoughts shared by thee.

My heart says I love you 
for all the ways you let me know,
That I really am important 
in your world that's not a show.

My heart says I love you 
and I want you to see,
The impact that you've made
is significant in me.

My heart says I love you 
and I'll always be glad,
For the way you've touched my life
and given me freedom I didn't have.
